Letter from Principal Bazyk

Dear Molly Stark Community,

I hope you all have a nice long weekend. There is no school on Monday, September 6, Labor Day. We will return to school on September 7. The SVSU Parent Newsletter was shared with all families. You can find this information on the SVSU.org website. Here are a few key items I would like to share. The next newsletter will come out on September 17th.

 September 3, 2021 Volume 33

In an effort to keep all schools open for our students, we want to communicate a few guidelines for our schools:

At this time we are limiting the number of outside visitors in the school building, including volunteers. We encourage virtual meetings whenever possible.

For the start of school, all SVSU school open houses will be virtual.

Please remember to keep your children home when they are sick. As a reminder, school safety protocols can be found in the newsletter. Guidelines for when to send your child back to school can be found in the newsletter.

The Federal Communications Commission has launched a temporary program to help families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month toward broadband service for eligible households. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.

Eligible households can enroll through a participating broadband provider or directly with the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) using an online or mail-in application.

You can learn more about the benefit, including eligibility and enrollment information, by visiting www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit or by calling 833-511-0311.

All students must wear a mask while on the school bus. If students refuse, they may have their bus privileges revoked. This rule aligns with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Requirement for Face Masks on Public Transportation.

Title I Event: Each year, Title I programs are required to host a meeting for parents to explain what the Title I program is and how parents can become involved in the Title I program. Please mark your calendar for September 20th- 6:00pm.

More information to come  on this next week. This will be a virtual zoom meeting.

Picture Day: As of today, we have picture day scheduled for September 30  and make ups November 15th. Information on pictures went home on Friday.

Chromebooks:

The possibility of students being confined to homes as we continue to deal with COVID is very real. To prepare for such an event and to make sure all students have access to lessons and teacher communication while at home, the SVSU has provided Chromebooks for all students who need them. These devices will not travel back and forth from school; a separate device has been assigned to students while physically in their school buildings. The Chromebooks going home will remain there for student use until the end of the school year when they will be returned for updates and maintenance. All learners brought home a form for Chromebooks. If you need another form please reach out to the classroom teacher.

Attendance/Tardies:
Please contact the school when your learner is absent. We are noticing a large number of families not calling the school to inform of an absence. Please communicate any difficulties with this. It is a responsibility and safety concern. We are also noticing a large number of tardies. School begins at 8:25 am. At dismissal, all car pick-ups are in the back of the building. We understand there may be a circumstance in which a different pick-up is needed. Please contact Principal Bazyk if this is necessary.

We thank you for your attention to these procedures to keep our community safe and healthy.
Appreciation & Gratitude-
Principal Bazyk
